Leather spine, no boards. 549, 130, 107 printed pages. The Committee under the Chairmanship of Lord Hamilton were looking to making this report a continuation of that of 1793. Every Royal Burgh was to supply a report, but the four largest, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee and Dunfermline had to send representatives to be questioned. In the minutes of evidence, Edinburgh covers the first 232 pages, Aberdeen 102, Dundee 56 and Dunfermline 35. The appendix which follows lists who the letters of request ahve been sent and who has returned, copies of accounts etc., all of which amounts to 84 pages. The reports for the subsequent years introduce the other Royal Burghs, and the Appendixes Gives an Extract from the Acts of Convention of Burghs 1708, Extracts from Sett of the Burghs, Return showing Royal Burghs Scotland that have at any time lost the power of electing their Council, 1685 to 1821, Excerpts from Council Books, Grants of Money by the Convention of Royal Burghs, Money from Convention to Improve Harbour of Kircudbright; 1808-1820, plus Excerpts from Abstracts of Burgh Accounts. The information contained gives a fascinating insight into local government in Scotland at the end of the 18th and begining of the 19th Century. £175.00
